Candy Corn Tutu

I was hoping to have a few pics of the adorable little girl that I made this for but didn't want to post after Halloween so I thought I'd better go ahead without.  So without further ado...
A fun & frilly candy corn tutu!! I love the way this turned out. I used white, orange, yellow and orange sparkle tulle (btw has anybody used this before? I LOVE it) and white ribbon for the tutu, baby tee is from Walmart with a rhinestone iron on decal from Hobby Lobby at 50% off $2. For the headband I decided to make a candy corn out of felt which was super simple.

Let's discuss this fun little chica....molly my dress form. I found her at a local flea market for $12.75!! Has anyone noticed how expensive those things are I was beyond excited.  But let me share the story..she doesn't appear to be a normal type dress form, in fact she's kinda scary looking without her super cute tutu. She came with legs, toes and flip flops?? The man at the store said he thought she used to be a planter? Umm...ok I could have cared what she used to be in her past life all I cared about was that she was coming home with me. (On a side note, I'm considering painting her toenails to make her less scary) She also wears a pair of blue jean shorts and a red tank top which both have been glued to her under the tutu.  Long story short I have been wanting a dress form for quite some time for my tutu's and I could not have been more excited to finally have found one and a child size at that!
And just one more pic :)

Halloween Feather Tree Tutorial

Shopping at Hobby Lobby recently I spotted a really cute Halloween feather tree.  I immediately fell in love with it but not with the price tag, even at 50% off it still wasn't in my budget.  So I decided to try and create my own "knock-off" version.  It turned out to be really easy and fun!! I can't wait to make more for future holidays!  Now for the tutorial

Gather your supplies: I actually decided not to use the orange feathers (after I snapped a pic of the supplies)
The styrafoam cone is the most expensive the size that I selected was $5.99 but I used a 40% off coupon. Feathers were $1.99 a bag with some leftover for other projects. And I found the sequins on clearance for $0.71.

Begin applying the feathers to the cone at the bottom with an adhesive (I used hot glue) trying to evenly apply them.  If you have bare spots it's ok you can fill them in later with smaller feathers.
Apply only a small amount of glue to the bottom of the feather
The sequins came pre-punched with a hole so I just slid these onto the feathers and they stay in place just fine. Repeat until your tree is complete!
Happy Halloween!!!

Welcome to Design.Create.Make.

Welcome!! I'm Samantha...A full time working momma to a sweet little 6 year old boy.   I have spent a crazy amount of time obsessed over all of the fabulous blogs out there and I have finally decided to start my own to show my love for all things creative.  I am addicted to goodwill, thrifting, & yard sales and hoping to show off some of my great finds and how one woman's trash can be transformed into another's treasure!! Oh aside from working my "day job" as a training coordinator at an optical lab I am also a party planner, I have a degree in Event Planning and currently run my own business Glitter and Glitz Eventz so you might get a few posts about that here and there as well, due to the fact that I handmake a lot of my own decorations.  I hope you like my space and are inspired to create!
